In First Corinthians 2, Paul draws a sharp line between the wisdom of this age and the wisdom of God. He did not come to the Corinthians with impressive arguments or sophisticated speech. He came with one message: Jesus Christ and Him crucified. But Paul was not dismissing wisdom altogether. He was rejecting any wisdom that no longer leads back to Jesus. The Corinthians were tempted to move past the gospel in search of something more advanced, and that same temptation exists in the church today. Even good things like discipleship, theological study, and spiritual discipline can quietly become forms of self-reliance when they shift our dependence away from Christ and onto ourselves.

The wisdom of God is not hidden because it is too complicated. It is hidden because human understanding cannot arrive at it on its own. It must be revealed. Paul explains in verse 10 that God has revealed these things through His Spirit, the very Spirit who searches the depths of God and now lives in every believer. What the Old Testament saints longed to see but could not fully grasp has now been made plain. The Word became flesh. The mystery has been disclosed. And that mystery is Jesus. He is the seed of the woman in Genesis, the Passover Lamb in Exodus, the fulfillment of every promise, and the answer to every longing. From the first page of Scripture to the last, every story points to Him.

The gospel is not a beginner's message to eventually graduate from. It is the message, every week, for every believer at every stage of faith. True growth does not leave the gospel behind. It leads us back to it with greater clarity and deeper dependence. The challenge for every Christian is to examine where trust is actually being placed. Are we resting in what Christ has done, or measuring ourselves by what we have done? The mystery has been revealed. The Spirit has opened our eyes. That is enough to stand on every single day.
